Sell and buy a used camera: where?

Hi everyone, I’m thinking, even if I haven’t totally decided yet, of selling my Sony a7r III and buying the equivalent or similar Canon, maybe the r6?. The reason is that having all EF lenses and despite having the adapter, I feel I’m not using the Sony to 100% and buying Sony lenses is a bit too expensive. Especially because I love my Canons.
So I was wondering, what are the shops or websites where it is safe and convenient to sell the camera and buy a used one?
I’m scared of selling to a private individual unless it’s someone I know.
Experiences? Advice? Thanks!

@olly hope the post is ok here ^^

Perfect to post!

I’d take a look at MPB in the first instance. Guaranteed sell but you might be able to get a bit more elsewhere, for a bit more work (eg. Gumtree, Facebook Markerplace, eBay).

thanks, aye MPB! I was watching the price of my camera in the website just to understand the value, and probably they buy from you 1/200 £ less of the price online? More? any idea?

Hey Sara, I went to Wex, if I’m being honest its because I wanted to support them as I really like that they have a branch in Edinburgh. They are also really knowledgeable and friendly. I sold my Canon eos250d to them and bought an r6m2 from them. I’m not sure that I got a better price because I traded it in but I think I did! Also, when I first went in for a look at the r6m2 the woman there told me there were canon deals coming. I held off for a bit and ended up getting a new one for not much more than the second hand r6s that were kicking about at the time.

Thank you for your experience! U could also buy an used camera or just a new one?

Hey Sara, yeah as Olly mentioned if you go to places like MPB they will offer you a lot less than what they intend to sell it for (expected as they are a business and need to obviously make money), my advice would be to look at these types of sites MPB, WEX, and see how much they are selling the same gear for, and then try selling yours on places like FB, Gumtree for slightly less than what they are selling for. If you have no interest in after couple of weeks you can still sell to MPB etc

Understandable  I have sold camera gear on FB before and yeah you get the odd chancer or scammer trying their luck but in the end I had no problems and sold stuff without issue. Good luck :crossed_fingers:

I like Ffordes up in Beauly. They offer sale on commission, trade in or straight purchase. All with different amounts of return to the seller.
