To be honest some of these didn’t look very “street” to me (including the winner!), but I thought “Tunnel View” and “Look Twice” were excellent

I agree - the winner, while a great shot, feels more like candid portraiture than “street” to me. I know that defining “street” has always been a big of a contentious issue, right enough.
Although I normally gravitate to black and white, I have to say Balloons is probably my favourite:
The “mother and child” one is a weird one for me - the thought of taking photos of children, especially in a situation like that, feels like it’d be a recipe for confrontation and awkwardness. It also doesn’t feel all that “street” to me - there’s not enough context to the scene.
Yeah would agree on “street” definition. I might start a discussion thread on that
I like the balloons one, it’s really bold and the kid’s expression is great but it doesn’t grab me so much for some reason. Either way, a lot better than my submissions
I think it’s the use of negative space that really appeals to me in Balloons. Which I guess also ties into my ‘hmm’ about both the winner and the mother and kids one; it’s that lack of wider context. I feel like once the subject is basically filling the frame, it almost always ceases to become street photography and becomes environmental portraiture instead.
Could probably get a robust debate going on back and forth, mind!
Who am I to judge but I also agree that the photos in the ‘street’ category are a bit short of the genre. And in fact among them the photo ‘balloons’ I like the most. Probably it is also due to the colour, I explicitly love such a shade of yellow.
